Duroc is a breed of pig developed from the Old Duroc pig of New York and the Red Jersey pig of New Jersey
It was formerly called the Duroc-Jersey. It’s a popular breed for farmers because of their even temperament and durability. Able to adjust to cold or warm weather, suitability to be raised in a pen or free ranged and fast growth rate, the Duroc is still able to provide well-marbled meat.
They benefit from intermuscular fat which results in well marbled meat and a darker colored meat which gives it a tender and flavorful taste. The Duroc pigs yield a high amount of useable flesh and promotes less wastage, as it possesses a significant amount of lean muscle.
